slowly
she pushed her cold silver walker ahead of her
~
she hadn't seen me
but
I was watching her
as
she shuffled her feet
~
her curly matted head looked cold to me
and
I wondered where her hat was
~
the glass doors slid open and the outside air caught our breaths
~
quickly
she was heading straight for the ramped handicapped parking area
covered in wet brown sludge
~
I got up right next to her and asked if someone was waiting for her
~
she said
yes
he's right there
yet
she tightly grabbed my arm
leaving her walker behind
while
telling me she'd rather walk with me
~
so I lead her down the ramp to the now open car door
while a man
~I'm assuming her 30 year old grandson~
came around to her other side
and
thanked me
~
she said
bless your heart honey
and
patted my hand
he said
have the happiest of holidays
~
I said
merry christmas
to you both
and
walked away thinking this is how I want to feel everyday

A multi-gift ... to her, her grandson, and yourself. And now to us. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteConnection is what all of our hearts are looking for - see how good if feels when we find it, even in the simplest moments. You are a good, good lady, Miss Beth. Not just because you offered your arm to that other sweet heart but especially because you got so filled with love at performing such a simple act.

ReplyDeleteWe have come across an elderly lady a few times since we've lived down here. We don't know her real name, she just calls herself our nanny. She was standing behind Bergen & Dylan at the grocery store one day and bought Dylan a candybar because she said he was such a kind little boy. Another time, we saw her walking across a parking lot, so we walked over to escort her, and she was telling us how much she loved us. She is just the sweetest, and it makes our day to see her out!
I'm commenting on two posts at once here...the ice fishing...its popular here to, though I could never feel its appeal. They often use heated huts though.
ReplyDeleteAnd the second one, helping others does feel good doesn't it?
Third comment.......I can't stand being around strangers, I'm way to shy & lousy at small talk!
thank
