yesterday was the kind of day where staying inside drinking hot tea
seemed like the only logical thing to do
~~
it was cool and gloomy and every now and then slivers of sun
wearing oversized boxing gloves
came fighting through
only to be slapped back into a corner
confused and bruised as to what just happened
if you're a knitter
it was a great day to finish up that scarf you've been working on
~~
if you're a baker
it was a great day to fill the oven with pies and cakes and cookies
~~
if you're a cook
it was a great day to peel potatoes for the stew you were making in your crock pot
but I am none of those
I'm a photographer
and
as hard as it is for me to say those words when someone asks me what I do
that's what I am
~~
I love my camera
I love photos
I love looking for things to photograph
I love having my camera in my hands
and
I just couldn't sit in the dark gloomy house another minute
so I put on an extra layer
~my first turtleneck of the season~
added
a quilted winter vest
warm fuzzy boots
and
my fingerless gloves
all
while my hubby asked
"what are we doing"
"where are we going"
~~
oh
how I love how he loves and trusts me
lucky for us the apple orchard right down the road
also has pumpkins
and
even though it was cold and tiny spits of rain hung over us
being there
sucking damp cool air into our lungs
watching little kids running around
oblivious to everything
while loving the freedom that acres of fields provided them
I took photos
lots of photos
and
was no longer cold
~~
I have learned that when you do something you absolutely love
with someone you love
cold
is no longer an issue

I was not as courageous and only ventured out to the library to search for renaissance portraits (no luck by the way) and then back home, wrapped in a quilt watching movies...I can smell the hot apple cider in through your shots from yesterday though... xoxox
ReplyDeleteWhen you are doing something you absolutely love with someone you love, your spirit finds peace and you realize that everything and anything is possible.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you had that reminder.
Oh, and if you don't want to say you're a photographer because it makes you feel a bit shy, that's perfectly fine because there are 100s of us out here that say it for you.
and your photographs are a joy for all to see!!! Hope your joyful spirit is regaining ground!
ReplyDeletePeace and Love!
Life frequently calls us outside our comfort zone to capture the beauty of and in what we love doing ... and you do it so beautifully.
ReplyDeleteOh! But cloudy days are the perfect days to get good pictures! The colour is more saturated and there are no crazy shadows and contrasts.
ReplyDeleteBut I know what you mean about the cold. Just takes a little getting used to, that's all. And I think you are doing that beautifully by the looks of these pictures.
Happy Fall to you!
xo
Love this Beth! I will go about anywhere for a good photo! You captured the day perfectly...love the lone apple.
ReplyDeleteLove makes us warm, doesn't it ? Glad you had lots of it this weekend. Some beautiful crispy Fall shots here, beth.
ReplyDelete(bought myself a fun pair of fingerless gloves on Etsy made from scraps of old sweaters. Hopefully they will be here soon. It is Canadian Thanksgiving and my birthday this weekend andthe gloves are a gift from me to me ! Sure to be photo ops. !)
Just slipping your hand into the one you love brings tons of warmth...even though it is frigid cold outside! Wonderful pictures and yes, you are an excellent photographer. Who else could salvage such beauty on such a gloomy day? Great job!
ReplyDeleteThat was such a good choice for you and John yesterday and we all get to enjoy the wonderful images you brought home. They will lift so many spirits!
ReplyDeleteI'm so in touch with that feeling - I remember going out on new year's day and it was freezing (32) and the wind was blowing gusts over 20 mph. and I had a great time.
ReplyDeletegorgeous shots
the orchard is such an amazing place! i'm taking my kids next monday. i love your shots...especially the apple all by itself in the grass. i'd like to hang that in my kitchen.
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful photos and I read through your blog. I particularly like the last line of this post: "I have learned that when you do something you absolutely love with someone you love, cold is no longer an issue". I read this to my hubby.
ReplyDeleteGreat post Beth. Your photos are gorgeous and I love what you wrote.
ReplyDeleteI feel like a photographer inside, even though my technical knowledge is minimal at best. I never leave the house without my camera. I even have it sitting on my lap when I drive because I want to have it ready fast if I see something that needs a quick shot as I drive by. I still feel hesitant to say I'm a photographer, even though that's how I feel. Just because I don't do it professionally doesn't mean that I'm not a photographer, right?
I love the description of the sun with boxing gloves!! I laughed at that one! You are not only a photographer, (a good one - don't ever forget it) but you are also a writer.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't we have the beauty & crispness of fall without the cold?
I just love your get up and go approach Beth.. I hate it when it's gloomy like that and I have trouble keeping myself motivated and inspired!
ReplyDeleteapples and husbands are worth it...not necessarily in that order! :)
ReplyDeleteLovely post by a great photographer. And I don't like being cold either! It is spring here for goodness sake and we are in the midst of a sudden cold snap - it's horrible! But still a few more days of holiday so I mustn't grumble. :-)
ReplyDeleteAfter viewing your photos I can almost smell the apples! How delicious to spend an afternoon there. Its getting so cold so fast, I haven't been outside with my little girlies much at all :) Hoping for a bit of sunshine at least to go and enjoy some fall ourselves. Thanks for treating us to the orchard!
ReplyDeleteSounds extremely blissful- even with the cold.
ReplyDeleteoh yes sweetheart. i am shaking my head yes, to all of the above.
ReplyDeletexo
I'm sitting her with someone I love and showing him your photos. We're both in awe of your talent.
ReplyDeletexo
ok, you captured the cold and crispness of the day, amazing.
ReplyDeleteYour love of photography is a big part of what makes your photos so beautiful to me!
This made me laugh as I have been out battling the freezing and cold high winds to take photos too.
ReplyDeleteYour last shot of the pumpkins was my favourite here.
oh bliss, looking at these, reminds me of My Lovely Mother and me taking Ciera Beara to the pumpkin patch 2 years ago. what a fabulous day that was ...
ReplyDeleteuh, confession time: I sometimes really HATE that you've disabled the download function on your pics cuz, like, I totally can't download the ones I love and use them for screensavers anymore (or in my journal). YOU got nerve (hee) ...
Beth what beautiful pictures, you are a photographer, I am glad you got to spend the day with your hubby.
ReplyDeleteEager to get to the pumpkin patch -- especially after seeing this!
ReplyDeleteThank you for being whoever you are ( cause you can write too... etc )
ReplyDeleteand you know, I like having all these blog women who help make me thankful for who I am too.
LOVE those kind of days and kudos to you for gettin out there and snapping away! Can't wait to see more of the result! Hope all is "better"...
ReplyDeleteOh, you did get some lovely images. And, so glad that you had hubby home for a while.
