knot again...

knotted

my thoughts
are rarely deep and dark
instead
they seem good
like well behaved toddlers full of curiosity
~~
but lately
somewhere along the safe path that I have sent them on
they stop to pick up a shiny coin or an acorn
and
while turning around in circles searching for the most brilliant leaf floating above them
they veer off that path and end up in the moist mulch beds
where the branches on the trees grow low and purposely trip those thoughts
until they seem lost
~~
then the birds call out making them look in an even different direction
and
they are blinded by slivers of sun poking them in their eyes
and
before I know it
those well behaved thoughts are twisting and turning
and
starting to become knots
and
wishing they had dropped some breadcrumbs behind them
~~
I stand back watching those thoughts
with my hands on my hips
shouting out
"what are you doing"
?
"I sent you on a wonderful little walk
to explore and grow and bring back friends
and
just look at what you've done to yourselves"
~~
and
they turn and look at me and laugh
reminding me
that they're just little explorers
and
that I've been the one a little knotted lately
not them
and
I shake my head
realizing that they're right
and
they come running back to me
right where they belong
and
together we sit here and write

  2. Beth ... you should be published and the book would win awards, of that I am sure! I can't even say how much your words move me and make me smile in my soul. Love that image too.

  5. Beth, this is very enlightening. You may think your thoughts aren't very deep but I disagree. Your words are simple, but not shallow. I don't think you can write so beautifully without being deep. Everything comes straight from your heart and that's what gets expressed onto the page. Your writing is very good because you are touching people with your soul.

    I love the photo too.

  6. Yes, it must be something in the air. Maybe the approach of winter, the darker season. Hang, just hang. The good will all come roaring back as I believe it is never really far.

  8. Such heartfelt words. I believe that when we are in a dark place with our thoughts we need to go thru what it is that is troubling us. Going around our troubles just makes it a longer process. It sounds like you are on the verge of a very important soul lesson. As the song goes, "the darkest hour is just before dawn." You'll come out the other side of this a better person. The knot usually means you're going against your heart's desire and something doesn't feel quite right about it. Whatever that may be. God bless.

  9. They're just little explorers..I love that..it's so true!

I love this little piece of writing. There is something so unique about the way you write, the way you see things, and the way you reflect on them. And you always add a touch of humour which makes it so YOURS.

I'm so glad you are here.

  15. this is my favorite post i have ever read here... i don't comment because i don't really feel confident enough to... how strange that seems when i read this post though because you write words like these that reach out into a screen and make a stranger looking at another screen feel like you wrote them just for her...

  16. Aww, so eloquent. I'm reminded of Maggie, although it rings true of the voice I've grown accustomed to just recently, named Beth. I'm going back now, to soak in your words again as they left me feeling like I'd just enjoyed a warm cup of tea on a chilly day :)
