the shadows
danced perfectly in the woods yesterday
like they had spent hours in a front of mirror practicing for just the right moment
the sun
glistened off the dried blades of grass
like a warm layer of lotion trying to smooth out the wrinkles
the leaves
that had lost their ability to hang on weeks ago
danced under my feet even though I thought their music sounded sad
the glass covered lake
ignored the geese that were finding last minute landing spots
acting as if it were an inn that was closing up early for the winter
and
the walnuts
fell from the highest of trees
letting out little sighs on their way down
somehow knowing this was the end
for them

I have to admit that this time of year makes me cry. This is a beautiful post and yes, it made me cry. Well done!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, this decay. It makes me sad too and yet glad that someone so wonderful stopped to capture its beauty in image and in word.
ReplyDeleteLove you and your amazing gifts, beth.
You have described the weather perfectly. You are so talented!
ReplyDeleteBeth- your words just wrap themselves around me- you captured autumn and our days beautifully. And I love the tone of the pictures- almost sepia-esque.... lovely post...
ReplyDeleteYou are so wonderfully expressive and the words fit the pictures perfectly. I enjoyed my walk through your autumn woods. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeletebeautiful as always...felt myself instantly relaxing!!!
ReplyDeleteOh it's so sad! But beautiful as always. Still waiting for that book you really must publish...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful words and beautiful photos.....
ReplyDeleteWords that set you thinking about the season with some reasoning.

ReplyDeleteAaahhhh love this one...so calming.
ReplyDeleteStunning. Just stunning. Your photos are always so evocative and a joy to see. x
ReplyDeleteI really like the one of the leaves on the ground, I like how you lost the focus in both the foreground and the background. Focusing remains to be my achilles heel, just can hardly ever get it right!
ReplyDeleteOh Beth, just beautiful as always, love you walking through the leaves. saddness, yes before the winter.
ReplyDeleteThe leaves picture with only the center leaves in focus is alluring, I am trying to picture in my head how you do that? Its different than just a bokeh shot... hmmm, so much to learn!!
ReplyDeleteLove the golden autumnal tones!
Lovely thoughts, lovely photos, and lovely munchkins in the previous post.
ReplyDeleteThese are great! My favorite is the 3rd one down of the leaves on the ground, such a great tribute to fall!!
