warning: self portrait wednesday~the scary edition

when I get up in the morning
I have hurricane hair
that makes me wonder what I actually did while I was sleeping
~~
I'm not one who really wants anyone to see me in the mornings
but
with my 45th birthday sneaking up on me even though I've thrown out my calendar
to get rid of the evidence
I've decided to throw myself at you
raw
~~
okay
not really raw since I did throw on a little powder and mascara for these shots
but
this is as "naked" as anyone gets to see me if they don't sleep under the same roof with me

on the days I don't shower
~gasp !...did she just say she doesn't shower everyday ?~
I'm usually in the mood to just throw on my baseball cap and go
~~
sometimes
when I brush my hair it actually goes back to what it looked like the day before
in which then I run out and buy a lottery ticket
because
luck like that doesn't happen very often
but
usually I get something flipped out like this

so a few times a week
this is the head attached to the body that looks back at me in the mirror
that runs out to do errands
with hopes of seeing something beautiful and distracting
so she can take photos instead
~~
and
on this day late last week
it was cold
as in needing a sweatshirt all day cold
and
I loved it
~of course that was after "the view" was over
which I only watch in hopes of actually seeing joy sucker punch elizabeth~

  3. Beth: I'm (only) 37 and I wished I looked this good in the morning. I hate my hair it probably the thing I hate the most about my body.

I think you look great, but self esteem is a funny thing and we never see ourselves the way others do.
Congratulation for being brave enough to show us the RAW you.

  4. So - who does look divine first thing? It's what's on the inside that counts, right? But you look pretty good any which way!

  5. Okay, Sis, here's the thing---I don't shower every day either. My old Italian Grandmother insisted that is was bad for your skin to do that! Bad! So, I dab my face with a was cloth, and make sure other parts are secured...and off I go.

I'm 54, (so don't go whining at me,)and when people say with amazement, "You're how old??? You don't have a line on your face!!!" I whisper "Thanks, Nanny!" over and over.

The last thing I'm going to say is, are you in your bathroom? And do you really have a television in your bathroom???!!! OMG!

  6. You are beautiful in the "raw"...I don't know if you ever think that, but when I see you with your beautiful expressive eyes, and the lovely skin and the angular shape of your face and that gorgeous coloring...I think you are beautiful. And I have a really good eye, by the way ! ;)

  11. Hurricane Hair -- hahahahahahaha! I call my morning hair "Sid Vicious Head" -- and this post just made me realize the one kind of hat I NEVER wear is a baseball cap. hmmmm. And you're beautiful 'raw', dammit!

i've always thought what an easy life it would be for muslim women who wear head gear - who cares what your hair looks like (washed? styled? greys?) - just wrap yourself up and go!

i have to admit, i did once get out of bed, put on my jeans on top of my pyjamas, buttoned up my jacket, put on a baseball cap and went out to the shop round the corner to get a magazine and some bananas - then came straight back home and into bed again.

  19. Fabulous! And don't sell yourself short -- I don't think you look scary, I think you look fabulous. (Apart from that scar, which looks not-fun. Hope it doesn't hurt too much. I'm glad the "bad guys" are gone.)
