japanese beetles again...

every year
we have them and there's nothing you can do to keep them away
~
sure
you can spray your trees
and
the ground
and
use bags to trap them
but
they're still there
in swarms

having a smorgasbord with your plants
mating
and
then quickly dying
until
their relatives show up the following year
to start the whole process all over again
~~
and
guess what
?
they really don't even bother me at all
especially
compared to
the lady asian beetles
that will inhabit
~by the thousands~
the porches out at our cottage
later this summer
~~
lady asian beetles resemble lady bugs
but
stink
and
leave yellow trails from bodily fluids on anything they come in contact with
ceilings
curtains
walls
floors
furniture
~~
just wait for that post
it won't be pretty

  2. Umm, I may be absent that day. Not sure yet, but I believe I have a funeral to attend. Or, if not that, I may have an appointment to shave my head with a cheese grater.

Just thought I'd let you know ahead of time...

  4. Is that bug porn? ;)

I think I know the ladybugs you're talking about...are they more orange than red and have more spots? We call them "The Evil Ladybugs" because ours bite....haven't noticed the slime trail though..perhaps they're another cousin...

    Ick.

They (the beetles) are quite pretty though....

  9. Oops! Sorry! Her blog is right above yours on my blogroll and I thought it was hers! Sorry, Beth. I do actually read the posts. I just might need to recheck the banner before posting! Sorry! The photographs are great regardless though. ~Heather

  10. Oh Beth, the photos are so clear, I tried getting a ladybug today but not a chance...however those bugs sound awful, but not as much as Holly shaving her head with a cheese grater...Take care.

we have a similar beetle we prosaically call the Stink Beetle!
I wonder if it is the same...

  13. well, that's not a very good way to get me to come visit the cottage. telling me there will be swarms of stinky asian lady bugs. :)

what crisp vivid color in these photos! how do you do it? i put my camera setting to vivid, but even then, sometimes my colors just don't seem to pop like this.

  15. mmmm what an appealing picture you paint, LOL. Gosh what kind of bug hellhole are you living in - do you need rescuing? Mind you, the bug live in out place is quite something...but nothing that leaves trails (apart from MrSpud who trails mess and junk whever he goes). x

  17. flies are my only problem. the cold of the atlantic cures the bug problem. but the cows that surround my house keep the flies multiplying in hoards.

loving the blackberry photo in the header.

  19. Ugh. Lady Asian Beetles -- I didn't know what they were called but I sure know what they are. Thanks (?) for the reminder!

  20. Some guests are really just rude and unappreciative... I've had some that left yellow trails in my bathroom before. They were of the male variety, but it still counts!
