game day...game face...

game day
this is my nephew
~
my hubby calls him
T
and
yesterday was day 2 of his league playoffs
in which I joined my sister and her family to cheer him on
~~~~~
who attacks a new puppy with love and kisses at the ball field
?
the sisters of the ball players
that's who
{the one in the white t-shirt is my sweet niece}
baseball players are moving targets and trying to get clear shots of my nephew
while he was actually playing
{with a huge wire fence in front to me}
was not easy
but
I did manage to catch him during the warm-up
and
of course sneaking into the dugout was pretty easy
T
is the catcher for his team and I couldn't help but shoot him getting his gear on and off
in between innings
and
being hugely impressed with how fast he could do this
there were times you could feel a bit of seriousness coming from the field or the dugout
and
somehow I caught it
on the kid who never stops smiling
on this second day of play
they won their first game
and
a few hours later in another elimination round
they lost
but
what an amazing season these boys had to even make it this far
and
what a great day this aunt had
watching
cheering
shooting
and
remembering how it was just yesterday that her own kids were this little
and
how quickly they grew because she blinked
  1. These are great pictures, Beth. My boys were both catchers and, like you, I loved watching them put on their equipment so quickly and efficiently. I loved hearing them call plays from behind the plate and the way they pushed the mask off to catch a pop up. Oh, how I miss those days--they do go far too quickly. Thank you for the beautiful pictures and the memories.
  2. This takes me back to when me little brother (now 27!!) played baseball...
    What beautiful pictures...you've captured the hardcore seriousness that can only come from young boys playing sports...unless it's grown men playing sports....:)
    Truly special...I imagine he'll be quite chuffed at how they turned out..
  4. Two are favorites and I can't say why the one, of them on the bench wearing their hats is one....I just like it.
    The one of his face, I love that you caught him in a moment of deep internal reflection and processing. You can see the Divine nature of a Human Being's mind at work.
    I do love baseball! The pics are great, and the kids are beautiful! Though I have three girls, they have all played basketball, the youngest one now on her high school team. Yes, time is swift.
  12. Oohhh, I'm so jealous!! I absolutely love baseball, played it from the time I was 5 until I had to quit because of injuries 6 years ago. My dream for my boys was to become great baseball stars.....and they were when they were really little, but, both of them grew out of it and into other sports, now they both think baseball sucks. Heartbreak!!
  24. You know, of course, how wonderful these are and how much your sister already cherishes them.
    You've brought back a memory of my own. Once when I went to my nephew's Little League game, I saw him in a whispered consultation with his coach. Then, he jogged over to me and said, "Aunt Relyn. Did you you know you were cheering for the wrong team?"
    My answer? "Oh, honey. I can't help it. I just have to cheer for both teams. That little boy on the other team just made an amazing catch. He deserves a cheer."
    I may never be a true sports fan, but I think he learned something that day about encouragement.
