if you build it, they will come...

actually it's more like
~~~
if you ask your neighbors if you can photograph their beautiful children
because you're building your portfolio
and
your love of children far outweighs any flower photo you've ever taken
~they just might say yes~
~~~

and
now I need your help
please.please.please
~~~
in the above photos
where I got a little processing happy
do you prefer the first one or the second one
?
and
having no idea why
{other than my little boy just isn't so little anymore}
this photo
stole my heart
~~~
thanking you all in advance for your opinions on the first two photos
and
if you're thinking this is all about my hubby favoring one over my original pick
you'd be so totally right
and
maybe helping to save this marriage

  1. I think I prefer the first one, but they are very different. The first one is a little sprite on a swing full of wistfulness--she could be any child but the second one is more of a portrait of a particular child. So, in my opinion (which probably isn't worth too much), the first one is artistic and the second one is a picture of a child. But don't let it wreck your marriage--they are both very good and should both be included in your portfolio because of the different things that they demonstrate.

  2. Yeah, what Beth said..but.....

    For overall *mood*...I prefer the first one because its so ethereal and, to me, represents 'little girlness', if that makes sense - and its the one I'd pick if it was my little girl you were photographing.

    And the third? Definitely a great shot...

    *sigh* Where do you live? You could snap away at my kids anyday....:)

  6. I prefer the softness of the first one..but am thinking that 'clients' might prefer the clarity of the second. Sweet little girl.

  7. Beth, I like the first one too because of as someone said the little girlness. I felt the second one was a darker version, looking more into a darker place...if that makes sense. The third photo I thought was just beautiful and can see why you loved it.Take Care, cinner

  8. Oh, Yikes, the pressure, a marriage on the line !;)

    I love the first soft, airy, angelic one best.

    (Unless that's the wrong answer ? ;) )

    Happy Friday !

  9. i like the first for sure! it's so precious.

    i just took pictures of my friend's two little girls two nights ago. she allowed me to meet them at the park so that i could get practice taking pictures of kids.

    i got a few good ones. and i can't wait to post them.

  11. And, the winner is 1!....not sure it'll save the marriage, but you did ask us...

  12. Hmmm. This is why I like them both -- the first has a misty, mystical quality; she's almost like a little sprite or fairy from another world, dreamy. So, if that's the impression you (or your client) would like, then that's your girl. The other feels sharper, clearer, more "real," more "alive." More ready to jump out of the image and hug me (or dash away, actually) than flit about me, like a spirit.

    So, it comes to pref -- that's tough; As an art piece, I like the first; as a "parent" I like the second. Ultimately, it depends on your statement and what you as the photographer are trying to convey.

    And door number three wins hands down -- that's fabulous!

  13. well, channeling my photography professor - the first one works better because if you see a subject's eyes in a shot you want them to be bright and engaging the camera. the first shot works better for that because you can see the light on the subject.

  14. beth!

    i love the first one so much...very ethereal and dreamy and full of little~girl~fairy~magic. as soon as i saw it i loved it and the second one didn't quite get the same reaction for me!

  15. I like the first better because you can see more of her pretty little face. It feels light and happy.

  18. Ok, Beth and I would say YES the first one. Lovely girl and the way you've worked with her. But the fact that the little boy is hanging on this swingthings: Love that one too. Don't you worry you're way to good not to be seen and noticed by people.

  19. # 1. So where are you going to dinner? And I'm assuming there will be red wine and chocolate.

    I prefer the first one Beth :-)

  21. Well, this is a good thing to know...because as a marketing person, I can tell you that this would be a great market case study. So, listen, if the parent who was paying was the Dad, you would be better to consider the other that Hubby liked. However, if the paying parent is the mommer, well there you go...all excellent info for you as you go out to peddle your wares!

  22. I have to agree with the others...the first one it is.

  27. It's the second one for me, Beth. And I've purposely not read the other comments first! I just like the darker tones and the intense look on the little girl's face!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well! I've just read the other comments, so what would I know?? Could this be a male/female thing? Which did your husband choose?

  29. I'm way late on responding and you've probably already enjoyed your dinner out ... but I was thinking if you get enough responses maybe there'll be a second dinner or a yummy dessert!

    Like so many others ... the first one - it makes me slow my breath and enter a very dreamy place.
